Koreańskie Taksówki / Korean Taxi

11/08/2010

Koszt dojazdu do pracy Piotrka to w przedziale 4800-6500 WON (12.50-17 PLN), czasowo zajmuje około 15 min.

Im podróż zajęła 1h 10 min, a nam 50 min...

Taryfa startowa to przeważnie 2300-2600 WON (6-7PLN)

Powrot z Seulu to trochę inna bajka i czasem wychodzi o połowę mniej niż dojazd w jedną stronę do Seulu...

Do Seulu z Bucheon można jeździć kolejką/metrem. My jesteśmy leniwi więc do Seulu od tamtej pory wybieramy zawsze opcję podróży taksowką.

Korean taxi drivers don’t speak English (and I don’t speak Korean). They all have sat-nav that is a bit advanced, but if it gets him not exactly where it should have, then we have a problem...

One day Piotr asked me to come to his office so that we could all go for dinner from there. Piotr’s office is about 15 min drive from the hotel and it usually cost around 4800 - 6500 WON (£2.60-£3.50) I ordered a taxi at the hotel reception. The guy from the reception personally put me inside the taxi, told the driver where to go, the driver put it in his sat nav, said he knew where he was going, and we were off. After about 15 min we ended up in the middle of a small junction and the driver asks ME in Korean (showing with his hands) whether he should go left or right (???). How the hell am I suppose to know? For me all those streets look the same and I didn’t see Piotr’s office building in the area so I had no idea where we were or which way we should go. The driver called somewhere, then I spoke to the hotel as well and in the end we reached Foseco (after queuing in traffic for about 15 min). So instead of a 15 min drive, we sat in a taxi with Maya for about 40 min and he charged us 12000W WON (£6.5). The following day I complained at the hotel reception that they gave me a crappy driver who didn’t know where to go and was asking me in Korean where to go... plus he charged 2 times as much as we usually pay...

Each taxi driver has got a sat nav but they can sometimes fail even with the sat nav.

The sat nav we see in the cars is a bit more advanced than the one we see in the UK. It looks like a small tv and the maps look really advanced and colourful and show the whole route with a lot of detail.

The taximeter in some cars shows a running horse - the faster we go, the faster the horse runs!

In some taxis they also have a small tv for passengers, situated between the front seats. Sometimes it is on but there is nothing interesting playing, mainly some Korean advertising. The drivers themselves sometimes have got a small tv in front as well. They watch some movies even when driving, and especially when stuck in a traffic jam.

The best and cheapest option is to get a taxi on the street. If you order it via hotel it will usually be more expensive.

It’s best to avoid black taxis as these are the most expensive, what we realised only when it was too late. We went from Bucheon to Seoul the other day and we paid 50,000 WON (£27) while the rest of our co-travellers going in another taxi (silver one), from the hotel to the same place, paid 30,000 WON (£16). Their journey was 1h10min, ours 50 min...

At the start of a taxi journey the taximeter usually shows 2300-2600 WON (£1.20-£1.40f).

The cost of a journey to Seoul can be really different, depending on the part of the city we go to, the day, the time of the day, the taxi and the taxi driver himself. Coming back from Seoul is always a lot cheaper, sometimes half of what we pay going to Seoul...

You can always take a subway rom Bucheon to Seoul but in terms of time, it won’t be quicker. With a small baby and a pushchair, and sometimes lack of escalators and lifts in the stations, it can be a real pain, what we realised during our first visit in Seoul.

At the end of the day we came back by taxi and it turned out not to be so expensive after all.

We are a bit lazy so since then, every time we want to go to Seoul, we take a taxi.
