ZAKUPOTERAPIA / SHOPPING
Malezja to jedno z najpopularniejszych destynacji w Południowo Wschodniej Azji, dla fanów robienia zakupów. Nie złożyło się nam jeszcze aby odwiedzić bazary czy targowiska gdzie jest najtaniej, ale w centrach handlowych, sczególnie w porze wyprzedaży (czyli teraz) ceny głównie ciuchów są całkiem przystępne, a wybór w produktach różnego rodzaju jest spory. VAT wynosi tutaj 0%.
Walutą tutaj jest Malezyjski Ringgit (1 MYR) a jeden Ringgit to 100 Sen'ów.
Przelicznik dla nas jest dosyć prosty bo każdą cenę dzielimy na 5, lub prościej, metodą Piotrka, mnożymy razy dwa i dzielimy przez 10. czyli dla nas 1 Ringgit to około 20 pensów (inaczej £1 = 5 MYR) a w złotówkach jeszcze prościej bo 1 MYR to około 91 groszy (inaczej 1 PLN = 1.08 MYR) czyli mniej więcej 1 do 1.
Paliwo jest śmiesznie tanie - obecnie 1.90 MYR za litr czyli około 1.8 PLN i 37 pensów! Cały bak do naszego śmiesznego auta (około 40 L) kosztuje mniej więcej 80 MYR (około 80 PLN).
Malaysia is one of the most popular shopping destinations in South East Asia. We haven’t visited any of the local markets where it’s usually pretty cheap and you can bargain, but in the shopping centres, especially during sales (which is now), the prices of mainly clothes are pretty inexpensive and the choice in different types of products is really huge. VAT is 0%.
The currency is 1 Malaysian Rinngit (1 MYR) and 1 MYR is 100 Sen.
The conversion is pretty easy because every price we can divide into 5, or easier, Piotr’s way, is to multiply the price by 2 and then divide by 10. For us 1 MYR is around 20p (or £1 = 5 MYR) and in Polish Zlotys - 1 MYR is about 0.91 PLN (or 1 PLN = 1.08 MYR) so more or less 1 to 1.
The fuel is about 3 times cheaper than in the UK. At the moment it’s 1.90 MYR per litre (about 37p!). Full tank of about 40 L costs us about 80 MYR (around £20).
Jesli chodzi o żywność to zakupy robimy w Carrefour (najbliżej od nas), ale do wyboru jest też Tesco, Cold Storage (odpowiednik angielskiego Waitrose) or Jusco (duży dom handlowy sprzedający wszystko od jedzenia po meble).
Ceny są mniej więcej takie same, chociaż lokalne produkty są dużo tańsze więc np jak kupimy ser Cheddar to zapłacimy tyle samo co w UK (lub więcej), ale jak kupimy jakiś lokalny to będzie trochę tańszy. Tak samo z owocami czy warzywami - te tropikalne, hodowane lokalnie, są tańsze. Wybór w owocach czy warzywach jest tutaj bardzo duży, i mozna kupi takie których nie spotkaliśmy w supermarketach w UK. Ryże, makarony czy owoce morza - mnóstwo rodzajów i gatunków i naprawdę jest w czym wybierać, szczególnie w świeżych przyprawach.
Jedyne co mnie denerwuje to ich mania na 0% / niskotłuszczowe produkty. Ja osobiście nie uznaję tego typu produków (to nie od tłuszczów się tyje) i nie jestem fanem (dla mnie produkty tego typu, ser czy jogurt, smakują sztucznie, są słodsze i mają inne dodatki których normalnie nie mają zwykłe pełnotłuste produkty). Prawie wszystkie jogurty w sklepach tutaj są albo niskie w tłuszcz albo 0%. Zadowalam się tymi nie-0% i smakują najbardziej normalnie.
Our main grocery shopping we usually do at Carrefour (the closest) but there is a big choice of supermarkets such as Tesco, Cold Storage (Waitrose equivalent) or Jusco (a big department store selling everything starting with grocery and finishing with furniture).
The food prices are similar although local products are much cheaper, so if we want to buy Cheddar, we will pay the same price as in the UK (or more), but something more local will be considerably cheaper. The same with fruit and veg - the tropical ones, grown locally, are cheaper. The choice of fruit or veg is pretty big and you can buy a few, that we haven’t seen in the UK. Rice, pasta, noodles, or seafood - huge choice and a lot of different kinds, especially among the fresh spices section.
One thing that annoys me is their 0% / no fat / fat free mania. I personally don’t believe in fat free or low fat products (you don’t gain weight from fat) and I am not a fan of those sort of products (for me yogurt that is 0% or low fat, tastes artificially, is sweeter and has other additives that normal, full fat products, don’t have). Here almost every single yogurt is fat free or low fat so I buy those that are non-0% fat and taste close to what a yogurt should taste like.
Ceny ubrań są bardzo zbliżone do tych w UK, może odrobinę taniej. Oczywiście najbardziej opłaca się robić zakupy w trakcie wyprzedaży, które właśnie w tej chwili trwają w Malezji (grudzień to jeden z trzech miesięcy w roku kiedy organizowane są mega wyprzedaże). Supermarkety to duże hale z masą dodatkwych sklepów czy restauracji dookoła, plus duża liczba stoisk 'targowych' z ciuchami czy zabawkami czy innymi gadżetami. Ciuchy są śmiesznie tanie szczególnie na tych straganach, ale na przykład zabawki czy produkty dla dzieci kosztują dokładnie tyle samo co u nas.
Prices here are similar to the UK ones, possibly a bit cheaper. Of course sales are the best time to do shopping and at the moment, December is one of the 3 months during the year in Malaysia when mega sales are usually held.
Supermarkets are usually surrounded with additional shops and restaurants, and also a lot of stalls selling cheap clothes, toys or gadgets. The prices of clothes can be really low, especially at those stalls, but toys or baby/children products cost exactly the same.
Centrów handlowych jest tutaj na pęczki po 4-6 poziomów i niekończące się aleje sklepowe, otwarte codziennie do 22:00, a sklepy i restauracje w większości powtarzają się więc w każdym takim centrum jest mniej więcej to samo. Sklepów jest więcej takich co widuję w Polsce, niż takich co widuję w UK. Jest tutaj też sporo markowych sklepów, czy to z biżuterią czy ubraniami, i wszystko pod jednym dachem.
Pierwsze centrum handlowe które odwiedziliśmy to Suria KL CC w centrum Kuala Lumpur, pod wieżami Petronas Towers. 6 poziomów i niekończące się sklepy, restauracje, kawiarnie, a na zewnątrz piękne widoki na PETRONAS TOWERS i fajny park z jeziorem, rewelacyjnym placem zabaw i tańczącymi fontannami.
There are a lot of shopping centres in Malaysia, each 4-6 levels and never ending shops, each open till 10pm every day. The shops and restaurants are more or less the same in each centre. There are definitely more shops I see in Poland, than those I see in the UK (the shopping here is more European than British). There are also a lot of high-end stores with jewellery or clothes, everything under one roof.
One of the first shopping centres we visited was Suria KL CC in the centre of Kuala Lumpur, right under the Petronas Towers, with 6 levels and loads of shops, restaurants, coffee shops, and outside pretty good views of the towers and a nice park with a lake, dancing fountains and a really cool playground.
10 min samochodem od nas są dwa Subang Parade (obok Carrefoura) i Empire Shopping Gallery zaraz po drugiej stronie ulicy.
Kolejne 5 min dalej i mamy wielkie centrum Sunway Pyramid (4 poziomy) z wielkim lwem przy głównym wejściu (początkowo myśleliśmy że to Sfinks) i całe centrum jest w klimacie Egipskim, głównie z zewnątrz. Wewnątrz oprócz sklepów i restauracji znajduje się lodowisko gdzie udało nam się kilka razy zerknąć na mecz hokeja. Jest tam też karuzela- diabelski młyn w środku, i inne atrakcje karuzelowo-zabawowe dla dzieci a wszystko to na 4 poziomach.
10 min drive from our villa we have Subang Parade, right next door to Carrefour and Empire Shopping Gallery across the road.
Another 5 min drive and there is a huge Sunway Pyramid (4 levels) with a huge lion by the main entrance (we initially thought it was Sphinx) and the whole centre from outside is Egypt themed. Inside apart from the shops and restaurants, there is a full size ice rink where we had a peek a few times at the hockey match. There is also a big ferris wheel inside and other children attractions such as roundabouts.
Mid Valley Mega Mall to jedno z popularniejszych centrów, na 5 poziomach, z Carrefour’em, kręglarnią, i 18-ekranowym kinem, i znajduje się jakieś 20-30 min samochodem od nas.
W Mega Mall ostatnio spędzamy najwięcej czasu w wolne dni Piotrka, bo znajduje się tam sklep Comics Mart w ktorym można grać w kolekcjonerską grę karcianą Magic The Gathering - coś w co Piotrek grał jakieś 10 lat temu w Polsce, a teraz znowu mu się zachciało i zaopatrzył się w kompletnie nową kolekcję kart. Piotrek siedzi w sklepie i gra a ja z Mayką chodzę po sklepach (i wydaję pieniadze!). Mayka ma frajdę w przebieralniach, szczególnie takich które mają wystarczająco dużą lukę w dolnej części drzwi przez którą przechodzi do sąsiednich kabin… Biega też trochę po sklepach i wypatruje sznurki albo metki, podczas gdy ja oglądam ciuchy na wieszakach. Siedzimy też czasami w Mega Kidz - plac zabaw dla dzieci, czasem przesiadujemy w stacjonarnych samolocikach czy samochodach rozlokowanych na różnych piętrach.
Na zewnątrz są fontanny na które Mayka uwielbia się gapić, więc w sumie cały dzień mija dosyć rozrywkowo i szybko. Pogoda ostatnio pochmurno deszczowa więc z basenu czy placu zabaw i tak byśmy nie skorzystali. Nie ma tego złego… ;)
Mid Valley Mega Mall is one of the most popular shopping centres, on 5 levels, with Carrefour, bowling, 18-screens cinema and it is about 20-30 min drive from us.
At Mega Mall we recently spend quite a lot of time, at the weekends, because there is a shop Comics Mart where he can play Magic The Gathering - a collectible card game, Piotr played about 10 years ago in Poland, and now he felt like playing again. So he bought himself a big collection of the cards. Piotr sits in the shop and plays and I do the shopping with Maya. Maya usually has fun in the fitting rooms, especially the ones with enough space under the door to squeeze through and go into the neighbouring rooms... She also runs a bit around the store, chewing on strings or labels, while I browse the clothes on the hangers. We sometimes play at Mega Kidz - an indoor playground, and sometimes we play and/or ride in the stationary cars or planes for kids scattered throughout the whole shopping centre.
There are also a few fountains outside that Maya likes to watch, so the day passes really quickly and interestingly as well. The weather is not the best recently so we wouldn’t probably be using the playground outside, or the swimming pool.
