NURKOWANIE NA BORNEO / DIVING IN BORNEO
Nurkowanie w Mabul Water Bungalows Resort organizowane jest zawsze w 3 miejscach - Mabul, Kapalai i Sipadan (3 wyspy). Łodzie zabierały na każde nurkowanie 10 osób max jednorazowo ale najczęściej było nas 6-8. Wszystko było fajnie i sprawnie zorganizowane. Fakt że nasz pobyt i nurkowanie odbywały się w porze deszczowej więc widocznośc często była kiepska (na Sipadan prawie zawsze idealna).
Diving at Mabul Water Bungalows Resort is organised around 3 islands - Mabul, Kapalai and Sipadan. The boats usually took max of 10 divers at a time, but mostly there were 6-8 of us at a time. Everything was organised very well. Our stay and diving was during the monsoon season so the visibility was often not very good (but always perfect in Sipadan).
Nurkowanie było jedne z ciekawszych - spotykaliśmy dużo żłówi, rekinów, duże mątwy (cuttlefish) zmieniające kolory, krewetki, ślimaki nagoskrzelne (nudibranches), mureny (moray eels), wiele różnorakich błazenków (clownfish), skrzydlice (lionfish), skorpeny (stonefish), płaskogłowowate (crocodile fish), żabnicokształtne (frog fish) i masę innych ryb, sporo z tego nie widzieliśmy wcześniej.
The diving was one of the most interesting ones we've done so far - we met lots of turtles, sharks, big cuttlefish changing colours, shrimps, nudibranches, moray eels, lots of different types of clownfish, lion fish, stonefish, crocodile fish, frog fish, and many many more, most of those we haven't seen before.
Nasz pakiet obejmował 3-4 nurkowania dziennie. Można było sobie schodzić bezpośrednio z molo na house reef (główną rafę wyspy), nurkowanie z łodzi dookoła wyspy Mabul/Kapalai (3 nurkowania), lub całodniowy wypad na Sipadan. Dzień wcześniej dowiadywaliśmy się gdzie będziemy nurkować nazajutrz.
Our package included 3-4 dives daily. We could do unlimited diving on the house reef, go boat diving around Mabul/Kapalai (usually 3 dives) or go for a whole day to Sipadan. On the day we found out from the schedule where we will go diving the next day.
House reef jest to sztuczna rafa więc od początku trochę wątpiliśmy czy jest tam co oglądać. Piotrek w ostatni dzień poszedł tam zanurkować aby się przekonać czy warto (z parą Włochów i Duńczyków). Na mapie rafy powieszonej przy zejściu widać że są tam jakieś takie rusztowania, piramidy i wszystko na przestrzeni 5-25 metrów. Widoczność była kiepska i generalnie nic ciekawego tam nie było. Te rusztowania i piramidy są za głęboko i słońce tam nie dochodzi więc za wiele nic tam na nich nie rośnie. Na to nurkowanie Piotrek zabrał naszą choinkę i po skońćzonym nurkowaniu wszyscy mówili że choinka była najlepszą ciekawostką ;)
House reef is an artificial house reef so we doubted there will be anything interesting to see. Piotr did one dive there (with a couple of Venetians and Danish) just to make sure. The map of the reef is displayed by the divers store and you can see there are some sort of scaffoldings and pyramids, everything in the range of 5-25m. The visibility was poor and in general there was not much to see. The scaffoldings and pyramids are fixed too deep so the sun won;t even reach them and there is not much of a sea life growing on those. Piotr took our Christmas tree with him and others were saying that it was the most interesting thing of the whole dive ;)
Nurkowanie na Mabul/Kapalai zaczynało się o 8:30 (na łodzi), po tym pierwszym nurze powrót na wyspę, potem kolejny nur o 11:00, powrót na obiad, i po południu 14:30 trzeci wypad. Nie trzeba było iść na wszystkie nury, a można było wogóle nie iść na żaden (wystarczyło tylko zaznaczyć na tablicy na które się idzie a na które nie).
Diving in Mabul/kapalai started at 8:30 (time the boat leaves the jetty), after the first dive the boat comes back to the resort, then another dive at 11:00, back for lunch, and the last one at 14:30. You didn't have to go on all dives, and you also didn't have to go at all (we just had to mark on the dive schedule the dives we do and the ones we don't) .
Nurkowanie dookoła Mabul jest idealne do wypatrywania drobnych stworzeń takich jak ślimaki nagoskrzelne (nudibranches) i widzieliśmy ich dosyć spore ilości. Nie widzieliśmy ich nigdy w innych miejscach wcześniej, no może jednego w Morzu Czerwonym gdzieś kiedyś wypatrzyliśmy.
Rafy przy Mabul są w nienajlepszym stanie i na głębokościach 18-20 metrów czasem jest 'cmentarz' czyli nic ciekawego nie ma a korali czy innych żyjątek jest jak na lekarstwo. Wystarczyło popłynąć trochę płycej na 10-15m i od razu było ciekawiej i nie było tak ciemno. Ogólnie rafy dookoła Mabul nie są najgorsze i obok małych osobników (ślimaki, krewetki czy koniki morskie) niejednego żłówia czy rekina praktycznie za każdym razem można spotkać. Ja spotkałam dużą mątwę na dwóch osobnych nurach tyle że aparatu nie miałam ze sobą na żadnym z nich.
Diving around Mabul is perfect for small stuff such as nudi branches and we actually saw a lot of them. We hadn't seen any of those anywhere else before, well, maybe there was one in the Red Sea.
The reefs are not in perfect condition and when we go down to 18-20m the sometimes look like a 'cementery' - barely any corals or other sea life. Once we got to around 10-15m it was far more interesting and the visibility was much better and it wasn't so dark.
In general the reefs around Mabul are not that bad and apart from the small stuff (nudibranches, shrimps, sea horses) you meet turtles and/or sharks almost every time you dive there. I also met big cuttlefish on two separate dives in Mabul but didn't bring the camera on any of those.
Kapalai to właściwie nie wyspa a płycizna z piasku z rafami dookoła (200 lat temu była to wyspa ale erozja zmyła ją do poziomu morza). Na tej płyciźnie znajduje się wodny resort podobny do naszego. Ja osobiście nie zaliczyłam tam żadnego nura ale Piotrek był dwa razy i za każdym razem mu się nie podobało. Było podobnie jak na Mabul, widoczność kiepska i nic ciekawego.
Kapalai is actually not an island but a sand bar with the reefs around it (200 years ago it was an island but erosion reduced it to the sea level). There is a water village resort similar to ours. I personally didn’t do any dives there but Piotr went there twice and he wasn't happy what he saw . It was similar to Mabul, possibly even worse, with poor visibility and not too much to see.
Wyspa Sipadan to zupełnie inna bajka. Jest to raj dla nurków i główny cel nurkowych 'pielgrzymek'. Wyspa Sipadan jest niewielka i kiedyś był tam resort ale zamknęli go w 2002 dla ochrony wyspy i raf dookoła. Obecnie jest to teren chroniony i rząd wydaje tylko 120 dziennie pozwoleń na nurkowanie (o pozwolenia podanie składa resort, koszt 40 Rinngit).
Sipadan Island is a completely different story and it is a paradise for divers and one of the divers' must-dive top destination. The island is not to big and there used to be a resort but the government cloesd it in 2002 for environmental protection and to protect the reefs around. At the moment the island is protected and the government issues only 120 permits a day to dive there (the resort you stay at applies for the permits and a single one cost 40 Ringgit).
Sipadan znajduje się jakieś 20 min łodzią od Mabul, przy głównym molo jest budka w której siedzi strażnik i każdy kto przypływa musi się wpisać do książki. Z naszego resortu łódź wypływała o 5:30 rano (!) i organizowane są 4 zejścia pod wodę na rafy dookoła wyspy. Wyspę 'otwierają' o 6:00 więc pierwszy nur po 6 rano, drugi koło 9, trzeci koło 11 a ostatni po obiedzie koło 14:00. Po każdym nurze łódź wraca na wyspę i można odpocząć pod dużą wiatą przy stolikach, dostępne jest jedzenie i picie (zaopatrzenie przypływa z resortu), ale komary niestety zjadają żywcem. Nie jest obowiązkowe schodzenie na wszystkie 4 nury, można na przykład po trzecim wrócić na Mabul z łodzią 'obiadową'. Po takim dniu nurkowania i pobudce o 5 rano Piotrek zawsze następny dzień 'brał sobie wolne’.
Sipadan is about 20 min by boat from Mabul, there is a booth by the main jetty where a guard sits all day and every visit needs to sign in the book. Form our resort the boat usually left at 5:30am (!) and you can do 4 dives around the island. The island 'opens' at 6am so the first dive was usually after 6:00, the next one around 9:00, then 11:00 and the last one after lunch around 14:00. After each dive the boat comes back to the island and you can have a rest under a big shelter with tables and benches, have something to eat or drink (the food comes from the resort by boat), but the mosquitos will eat you alive. You don’t have to do all 4 dives, you can always stay on the island, or you can come back after the third dive with the lunch boat. After such a day of diving and early wake up, Piotr usually had the next day off.
Rafy dookoła wyspy Sipadan są przepiękne, widocznośc bardzo dobra a różnorodność stworzeń ryb i korali jest rewelacyjna w porównaniu do nurkowań które do tej pory robiliśmy, i w porównaniu do Mabul - o niebo lepsze. Mnóstwo żłówi, rekinów, ławic, niezliczone ilości i rodzaje korali i ryb. Piotrek po każdej wizycie z Sipadan był zachwycony, i nurkowanie przy Mabul już nie było takie ciekawe.
The reefs around Sipadan are really beautiful, the visibility is always good and the variety of marine life is perfect compared to other dives we'd done so far, and it is far better than diving in Mabul. There are loads of turtles, sharks, shoals of fish (baracudas or big humphead parrotfish), countless corals and types of fish. Piotr was always really satisfied after diving there and Mabul diving was no longer too exciting.
Ja na Sipadan wybrałam się z Mayą raz. Popłynęłyśmy z łodzią 'obiadową' o 10:30, zostawiłam Mayę z Piotrkiem (posiedzieli sobie na plaży i popływali trochę), a ja poszłam na jednego nura z resztą ekipy. Zaliczyłam tam tylko jednego nura (50 min pod wodą) ale żłówi się nie doliczyłam bo tyle ich było, kilka rekinów, kilka ławic i rafy są naprawdę piękne i nie zniszczone, a ja nie bardzo wiedziałam w którą stronę i na co się patrzeć (prawie jak w sklepie - za duży wybór!).
I went to Sipadan with Maya just once. We went with the lunch boat at 10:30, Maya stayed with Piotr (they had some quality time on the beach and in the sea) and I went with the others for one dive. I only dived there once (50 min under water) but I lost count on the numbers of turtles we'd met, we saw a few sharks, big shoal of baracudas and humphead parrotfish and the reefs are really beautiful. I sometimes had a problem where to look as there was soo much too see (a bit like in a shop - too much choice!)
Dla nie nurkujących, opcja snorkelowania (maska i płetwy) jest jak najbardziej popularna i masa ludzi przylatuje w ten rejon tylko na snorkeling. i nawet na Sipadan można wybrać się posnorkelować.
Obok naszego resortu trochę rafy było więc poszliśmy zobaczyć raz czy dwa - zabraliśmy ze sobą Maykę do kółka tyle że my patrzyliśmy w dół co pod wodą a ona jedynie patrzyła na nasze rurki wystające z wody ;) ale podbało jej się i nie marudziła a i pochlapać wodą też mogła trochę. Piotrek nawet postanowił jej zrobić chwilowe zanurzanko żeby było widać że była na rafie ;)
Nie był to Sipadan ale sporo można zobaczyć - dużo ryb mniejszych i większych, sporo małych rybek w ławicach pływa dookoła, skrzydlice, mureny, błazenki, masa rozgwiazd, płaszczki, jeżowce, więc jest co oglądać nawet jak ktoś nie nurkuje.
For non divers snorkelling is an option and it is very popular as well and many people coming there don't dive, they just come for snorkelling. And you can also go for snorkelling to Sipadan.
Next to our resort in the shallow parts there was a bit of a reef so we went for snorkelling once or twice. We took Maya in her swim ring and we had some peeks under water while she followed us watching our snorkels sticking out of the water ;) but she was pretty happy and didn't complain and did some splashing as well from time to time. Piotr also decided to get her under water for a moment ;)
It wasn't Sipadan but you can see quite a lot when swimming for hours - lots of fish, smaller and bigger, lots of small fish circling around in schools, lion fish, moray eels, clownfish, starfish, flat fish, sea urchins, so there is a lot to see as well even for non divers.
Zdjęcia robiliśmy naszym Nikonem D90, z użyciem dwóch obiektywów na zmianę - 35mm 1.8 i 105mm makro. Pierwszy raz używaliśmy też lampy podwodnej ale niektóre zdjęcia są z lampą a niektóre bez. Zdjęć nazbierało się naprawdę mnóstwo i jak zwykle ciężko jest wybrać te najlepsze ;)
Photos were taken with our Nikon D90, switching between two lenses - 35mm 1.8 and 105mm macro. For the first time we also used our new strobe (underwater flash) but some of the photos are taken with the flash and some without. Again we have loads of photos and again it is difficult to select the best ones (and keep the number low!) ;)
Porównując do raf które do tej pory widzieliśmy w innych zakątkach świata, tutaj byłó trochę inaczej i chyba najciekawiej. Zawsze chyba jest bardzije ekscytująco jak pod wodą spotyka się duże osobniki niż jak się spoytka ślimaczki czy krewetki. A tutaj sporej wielkości żłówi czy rekinów spotkaliśmy naprawdę sporo. Małe stworki też są ciekawe szczególnie jak wypatrzysz je samemu wśród korali, co wcale nie jest takie proste.
Nurkowanie zaliczamy do jak najbardziej udanych dzięki bogatej obsadzie - duże ilości dużych żłówii, dużo rekinów, dużo ławic a do tego makro ciekawostki czyli drobniutkie ślimaczki czy krewetki przeważnie trudne do wypatrzenia. Bardzo ciekawe miejsce i napewno jeden z top spotów dla nurków. Polecamy!
Comparing to the reefs we dived at so far in other places around the world, this spot was a bit different and we think it was the most interesting. I think it is always more exciting when you meet 'big guys' under water, than meeting small nudibranches or shrimps. And here we met quite a lot of pretty big turtles and sharks. The small macro stuff is also interesting especially when you actually spot it yourself among the rest .
Diving here we can say was very successful thanks to the very rich ‘cast’ - lots of turtles, sharks, schools of fish, plus lots of macro stuff not so easy to spot. It is very interesting and one of the top diving spots and we definitely recommend it!
