W pierwszy majowy weekend wybraliśmy się do Singapuru.
Singapur jest miastem-państwem i znajduje się na południowym krańcu Półwyspu Malajskiego, zaledwie jeden stopień na północ (137km) od równika. Nazwa pochodzi od dwóch sanskryckich słów singa (lew) i pura (miasto). Wizerunek lwa z ogonem ryby (Merlion) jest znanym symbolem Singapuru.
Singaupr znany jest z tego, że jest to fine city co ma dwa znaczenia. Jedno znaczenie - dobre, fajne miasto, w którym można mieszkać, drugie znaczenie - jest to miasto 'kar pieniężnych' aby utrzymać w kraju porządek (fine = kara pieniężna). Kary są za żucie lub nawet posiadanie gumy do żucia, plucie w miejscach publicznych, śmiecenie, spożywanie posiłków w komunikacji miejskiej, niezapinanie pasów, wysadzanie pasażera na przystanku autobusowym.. i można by jeszcze dużo wymieniać.
Od Kuala Lumpur, Singapur znajduje się około 5 godzin jazdy samochodem, około 7 godzin jazdy pociągiem i zaledwie godzinę samolotem. Podróż pociągiem czy autokarem jest całkiem tania ale trwałaby zbyt długo, więc wybraliśmy samolot, tym bardziej, że leceiliśmy z lotniska Subang które znajduje się 10 min taksówką od naszego osiedla.
On the first May (Bank Holiday) weekend we went to Singapore.
Singapore is a city-country and is situated on the southern tip of Malay Peninsula, just one degree (137km) north from the equator. The name comes from two sanskrit words singa (lion) and pura (city). Merlion - lion with a fish’s tail - is a well known symbol of Singapore.
Singapore has been known as a ‘fine’ city which has been embedded with two different meanings. One as a fine city to be living in while another means fines that keep the country in order. You can get fined for chewing a gum or even possessing it, spitting in public places, littering, eating or drinking on public transport, not fastening your seatbelts, dropping off a passenger at the bus stop... and there are many many more.
From Kuala Lumpur, Singapore is about 5 hours drive by car, about 7 hours journey by train and just about one hour by plane. The journey by bus or train is pretty inexpensive but would definitely be too long so we chose to go by air, from the airport that is just 10 min drive by taxi from where we live now.
Lot mieliśmy wczesnym popołudniem liniami FireFly z lotniska Subang. Na lotnisku po odprawie paszportowej zbyt wiele atrakcji nie ma. Sklep z alkoholami i bar w którym można coś zjeść czy napić się. Jest też kilka foteli-masażystów ale żaden z nich nie działał ale przynajmniej można było sobie posiedzieć na czymś wygodnym.
Our flight was in the early afternoon, with FireFly airline from Subang airport. At the airport, once you check in and go to the gates, there is not much to see or do. Just a duty free shop with alcohols only and a bar where you can eat or drink something. There are a few Rest&Go massaging chairs but none of them worked, but you can at least wait comfortably for your plane to start boarding.
Nasz samolot to ATR 72-500 - górnopłat z silnikami turbośmigłowymi zabierający na pokład około 70 pasażerów, z ukladem siedzeń dwa - dwa (jak w Concorde). Lot przebiegł bez problemu tyle, że przy starcie strasznie hałasuje ale lot generalnie odbywa się nie inaczje niż w każdym innym samolocie i nie czuć większej różnicy. Na pokładzie dostaliśmy sok do picia i przekąskę - orzeszki i mini hot doga na zimno.
Our plane was ATR 72-500 - twin-engine turboprop short haul airliner, seating about 70 passengers, with the seats arranged two-two (like in a Concorde). The flight went smoothly and on time. The only thing I didn’t like was the very low and loud noise it makes when taking off, but the flight in general feels and looks the same as in any other aircraft and you don’t really feel any difference. On board we got complimentary juice, mini cold hotdog and some peanuts.
Po godzinie lotu wylądowaliśmy w Singapurze. Hotel który wybraliśmy - Berjaya Singapore Hotel - znajduje się około pół godziny jazdy taksówką od lotniska, w dzielnicy Chińskiej. Sam hotel jest 3 poziomowy i jest wiekowym budynkiem z czasów kolonialnych; z zewnątrz prezentuje się ciekawie, wewnątrz bardzo elegancko i trochę klimatem przypomina Francję.
After one hour flight we landed in Singapore. The hotel we chose to stay at - Berjaya Singapore Hotel - is situated about half an hour drive by taxi from the airport, in Chinatown. The hotel is 3 storey and is a pretty old building from the colonial period; it looks really nice from the outside and inside is very elegant and nice, a bit reminding me of France.
Nasz pokój nie był super ekstra duży ale wystarczający, z całkiem porządną łazienką, duża szafa isejf. Woda butelkowa była wliczona w cenę, ale w Singapurze woda kranowa jest bezpieczna do picia więc jak nam brakowało to dolewaliśmy z kranu. Oprócz tego kawa/herbata w nieograniczonych ilościach. Maya nawet dostała drewniane łóżeczko do spania. Bardzo jej sie podobało pewnie dlatego że to coś nowego a i nawet w nim trochę pospała ;)
Our room wasn’t huge but was big enough for all of us, with a rather decent shower roo, a big wardrobe and a safe. Bottled water was complimentary but in Singapore tap water is safe to drink so we topped it up whenever and wherever we wanted. There were also tea/coffee making facilities. Maya got a proper wooden cot to sleep in as well. She really liked it probably because it was something new to her and she even slept in it now and then ;)
W hotelu jadaliśmy tylko śniadania, i do wyboru mieliśmy kontynentalną opcję (tosty, płatki/musli z mlekiem - zamówiłam raz tylko i dostałam z mlekiem skondensowanym…) lub śniadanie amerykańskie - jajka (omlet/jajecznica etc), kiełbaski, fasolka, pomidor - właściwie to dla nas to było typowo angielskie śniadanie. Do tego sok, kawa/herbata i właściwie można było się porządnie najeść (tą drugą opcją).
We only had breakfast at the hotel and we could choose a continental version (toasts, cereals/muesli with milk - I only ordered it once and got it with condensed milk...) or American breakfast - eggs how you want them, sausages, beans, tomato - actually it was an English breakfast. Plus juice, tea/coffee and we would be full till late lunchtime (choosing the second option).
W dzien przylotu po rozpakowaniu się, wybraliśmy się do jednego z wielu centrów handlowych - Funan, najpopualrniejsze miejsce w którym można zapopatrzyć się w każdego rodzaju sprzęt komputerowy i elektroniczny. Wybraliśmy się tam bo nasz główny obiektyw lekko się popsuł i chcieliśmy zobaczyć ile kosztuje nowy i możliwe że nawet kupić. Dobrze, że nic nie kupiliśmy bo ceny, jak się później okazało, są niższe w Malezji, ale nie tak wysokie jak w UK.
After unpacking, we went to one of the many shopping centres - Funan, the most popular place to buy electronic and computer gadgets. We went there because our main camera lens got a bit broken and we wanted to see how much is the new one and possibly buy it. Good we didn’t because the prices turned out to be higher than in Malaysia, but a bit lower than in the UK.
Wypad ten potraktowaliśmy też jako test lokalnego metra. Jest to oczywiście bardziej skomplikownae niż taksówka - trzeba dojść do stacji, kupić bilet (z naszego hotelu do centrum to około 2-4 SGD - Singapurski Dolar), dojechać na miejsce, ewentualna przesiadka, wyjść ze stacji, dojść do miejsca zainteresowania... taka podróż z małym dzieckiem to nie zawsze dobre rozwiązanie tym bardziej że taksówką z naszego hotelu można dotrzeć za około 6 SGD. Ale przynajmniej przetestowaliśmy. Metro jest porządne, nowoczesne, klimatyzowane, bardzo podobnie jak w Hong Kongu czy Kuala Lumpur. Napewno większy komfort jest podróżować w takim nowoczesnym metrze, z klimatyzacja, niż w wiekowym Londyńskim.
On this occasion we decided to test the local underground. The journey is a bit more complicated than taking a taxi - you have to walk to the station, but a ticket (from our hotel to the city centre it was about 2-4 Singapore Dollars (SGD)), get to the spot, change if needed, exit the station, get to the point of interest... this sort of journey with a small baby is not always the best choice, especially when you can get there quicker for around 6 SGD. But at least we did it. The underground is modern and air conditioned, similar to the ones we saw in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. It is more convenient and comfortable to travel on such a modern public transport, better than the old London tube.
Taksówki w Singapurze są stosunkowo niedrogie. Każda taksówka ma taksometr, stawka zaczyna się od wejściowych 3 SGD i jest to nielegalne kasowanie klienta więcej niż wybiło. Taksówka zabiera od drzwi i odstawia pod drzwi więc z Mayą było nam łatwiej podróżować taksówką niż metrem. Jedno co nas trochę wkurzało były postoje taksówek i kolejka. Taksówki nie stoją na postoju, podjeżdżają co parę minut więc trzeba swoje odstać. Raz staliśmy i czekaliśmyna taksówkę około 20 min (a podróż zajęłą nam około 10 min). Innym razem kolejka była tak długa że zdecydowaliśmy się wrócić metrem jako że ta podróż napewno trwała krócej niż stanie w kolejce po taksówkę.
Singapore taxis are relatively cheap. Each taxi has a meter and it starts at 3 SGD. It is illegal to overcharge. The taxi will pick you at the door and drop you off at the door so it was easier for us travelling with Maya, to do it by taxi rather than underground. The only annoying thing was queuing for tax. If you want to get a taxi from a shopping centre, you need to queue at the taxi point. The taxis don’t wait there, they just arrive every few minutes or so. Once we queued for about 20 min (and the journey to the hotel was about 10) but another time the queue was so long that we decided to go back by underground as the journey time was shorter than the queuing time.
W niedzielę wybraliśmy się do zoo, które znajduje się poza miastem, około 30 min jazdy taksówką (około 20 SGD). Wstęp kosztuje 20 SGD. Pogodę mieliśmy raczej pochmurną z drobnymi opadami deszczu więc idealna pogoda na zwiedzanie, słońce nie dokucza, tyle że też jest się mokrym pod koniec dnia tak czy inaczej. Zoo zajmuje spory obszar i większość terenów zamieszkiwanych przez zwierzęta jest tak urządzone aby jak najmniej przypominały zoo, a bardziej naturalne środowisko. Małpy czy orangutany chadzają sobie po drzewach praktycznie po całym terenie ogrodu. Udało nam się zobaczyć krótki show z psami i kotami (Animal Friends Show) który trwał dosłownie 15 min.
On Sunday we went to the zoo that is situates about 30 min drive outside the city (about 20 SGD by taxi). The entry is 20 SGD. It was cloudy and rainy so ideal weather for sightseeing, the sun doesn’t burn but you get wet anyway. Singapore Zoo is pretty big and most of the area is organised in a way it looks more like a natural environment, rather than a zoo. Monkeys and orang-utans were jumping on the trees here and there and you could see most of them around the whole park. We went to see a short show (Animal Friends Show) with dogs and cats.
Potem spędziliśmy trochę czasu przy królikach - Piotrek wpakował Mayę do ogrodzenia z królikami a ona miała frajdę bo patrzyła z bliska jak jedzą i sama nawet chciała ich karmić.
After the show we spent some time with the rabbits. Piotr put Maya inside their cage and she seemed to be enjoying it as she was watching them from close-up and even wanted to feed them.
Później wpadliśmy zobaczyć kozy i kupiliśmy wiaderko z jedzeniem dla kóz a Maya dzielnie karmiła je przez siatkę. Początkowo do całej akcji karmienia podeszła z dystansem ale jak się rozkręciła to sama się domagała i miałą przy tym niezłą zabawę.
Later on we went to see the goats, got a bucket of food and fed them. Maya was also brave to feed the goats. Initially she was a bit overwhelmed but then quickly got the hang of it and was having a real fun feeding the goats.
W zoo znajduje się też mini park wodny z kałużami i basenikami, prysznicami i fontannami, gdzie dzieciaki mają niezłą frajdę ale biegając trzeba uważać na niespodzianki typu kubeł wody wylewający się na głowę. Maya trochę się popluskała ale chyba była zbyt zmęczona więc za długo tam nie zabawiliśmy.
Po terenie zoo jeździ też tramwaj którym bez problemu można się przemieszczać (5 SGD płatne przy kupnie głównego biletu). Jest także wypożyczalnia wózków, czterokolowych wózków dla dzieci (2 się mieści) a także czterokołowe fotele, podobne do tych którymi czasami jeżdżą staruszkowie po chodnikach. My dotarliśmy do zoo o 10:30 i wózków dla dzieci już nie było więc nie mają ich zbyt wiele.
In the zoo there is a big water splash area with small pools, showers and fountains. Kids can run around and have a lot of fun but you have to be careful as there are a lot of surprises awaiting, like for example buckets of water being poured out on your head. Maya had a little splash around but was to tired so we didn’t play there for too long.
For the visitors, there are also zoo trams riding around the zoo so you don’t have to walk from one place to another. Of course you need to queue for the tram just like you would queue for a taxi . A bit annoying... You can rent strollers and 4 wheel carts (2 kids fit in) and also a mobile chair (like the ones elderly people use). We got there at 10:30 and the pushchairs were all gone.
Po zjedzonym obiedzie wróciliśmy do centrum miasta i wpakowaliśmy się na wycieczkowy autobus bez dachu aby objechać trochę miasta i zobaczyć conieco, bez nadwyrężania bolących już nóg. Miasto jest ładne i zadbane, ze sporą ilością zieleni, kwiatów i drzew. Sporo drapaczy chmur świetnie miksuje się ze starymi kolonialnymi budynkami (takimi jak nasz hotel na przykład). Jedną z budowli robiących wrażenie jest hotel Marina Bay Sands który składa się z trzech 55-piętrowych wież połączonych ze sobą na szczycie jednohektarowym tarasem-dachem gdzie znajduje się park, basen i inne atrakcje.
After lunch we came back to the city and hopped on a CitySightseeing bus, on the top deck, so that we could see some of the city without having to walk, especially that we were already tired. The city is pretty well looked after and there’s a lot of greenery. The skyscrapers pretty well mix with the old colonial buildings here and there (like our hotel for example). One of the impressive buildings is hotel Marina Bay Sands - it is a three 55-storey towers connected at the top with a one hectare roof terrace with a park, swimming pool and other attractions.
Clarke Quay jest znaną częścią miasta, ze sporą ilością pubów i restauracji gdzie można próbować kuchni całego świata, na świeżym powietrzu z widokiem na Rzekę Singapur. To jedno z ciekawszych miejsc skąd są jeden z ciekawszych widoków.
Clarke Quay is a well known part of SIngapore, with a lot of pubs and restaurants where you can eat anything you like, especially Asian cuisine, alfresco with a view towards Singapore River. It is one of the most interesting spots having one of the nicest views of the city.
W poniedziałek wybraliśmy się na wyspę Sentosa. Wyspa jest tutejszym parkiem rozrywki i znajduje się tu między innymi oceanarium, wodny park rozrywki, wesołe miasteczko, ogród botaniczny czy muzeum motyli. Na całej długości od strony wody ciągną się plaże sporych rozmiarów więc każdy znajdzie kąt dla siebie. Ten dzień okazał się być również dniem wolnym od pracy (jak i w UK) więc plaże na wyspie były zasypane ludźmi.
Wstęp/wjazd na wyspę kosztuje 3 SGD i można tam dojechać kolejką Sentosa Express z głównego lądu (jakieś 10 min). Można również wjechać samochodem/taksówką, autobusem, albo też skorzystać z niedawno otwartego zadaszonego deptaka i podziwiać widoki podczas spaceru. My wsiedliśmy w taksówkę i z naszego hotelu kosztowało to jakieś 15 SGD (łącznie z wstępem 3SGD / na osobę) - dojazd pod samo oceanarium.
On Monday we went to Sentosa Island. The island is a local fun park and there are a lot of attractions for older kids and adults, like theme parks, aqua parks, botanic garden, butterfly garden and underwater world. There are beaches along the south part of the island so you can spend all day on the beach if you wish. The day turned out to be a Bank Holiday as well, so the beaches were packed with people.
The entry to Sentosa is 3 SGD and you can get there by Sentosa Express from the mainland in about 10 min. You can also take a taxi or go by bus or just have a walk on a newly opened covered boardwalk and admire the views. We took a taxi from our hotel and went directly to Underwater World. It cost about 15 SGD (including the 3 SGD entry per person).
Underwater World czyli oceanarium nie zrobiło na nas jakiegoś wielkiego wrażenia. Całość jest niewielka i chyba główną atrakcją jest sporej długości tunel podwodny z którego można podziwiać większe sztuki ryb czy płaszczek, ale nic czego nie widzielibyśmy wcześniej. Mieli ładną kolekcję koników morskich ale poza tym nic specjalnego.
Underwater World is not too big and it wasn’t very interesting. The whole place is just a few tanks with the main attraction - a long underwater tunnel where you can admire some big species of marine life. But that was something we had already seen before. They had a nice collection of dragon sea horses and leafy sea horses but apart from that, nothing exciting.
Do oceanarium podczepione jest deflinarium więc załapaliśmy się na krótkie popisy różowych delfinów i fok. I to chyba była najciekawsza atrakcja całego miejsca.
There is also a dolphin lagoon where we went to see a show with seals and pink dolphins. And we think this was the best part of the whole place.
Zaraz przy oceanarium zerknęliśmy na plażę Siloso, gdzie było mnóstwo ludzi grających w siatkówkę. W końcu to dzień wolny od pracy więc każdy korzysta jak może.
Right by the Underwater World there is a famous Siloso Beach. It was packed with people playing volleyball, as it was a Bank Holiday so looks like people used it to spend on Sentosa and have some beach time.
Transport na wyspie jest bezpłatny (autobusy i tramwaje) więc wsiedliśmy w plażowy tramwaj (beach tram) i podjechaliśmy w stronę drugiego końca wyspy. Przy plaży Palawan znajduje się mała wysepka na którą idzie się mostem-kładką, który wpada w niezłe wibracje jak przechodzi dużo ludzi jednocześnie. Można dostać choroby morskiej ;) Na tej wyspece są dwie wieże widokowe z których można podziwać część wyspy, sporą ilość statków i kawałki Indonezji. Na tej wysepce znajduje się najabrdziej wysunięty na południe punkt kontynentalnej Azji.
Public transport on the island (buses and trams) is free so we hopped onto the beach tram and went towards the other end of the island, to Palawan Beach. There is a suspension bridge linking the beach to the small islet with the Southernmost Point of Continental Asia. The bridge is a bit shaky once there are a few people walking so you can get sea sick ;) There are also two towers you can climb and admire the views of Sentosa, lots of ships and some bits of Indonesia.
Po obiedzie w indyjskiej restauracji, wpakowaliśmy się do kolejki Sentosa Express i wróciliśmy do hotelu. Na wyspie znajduje się spory Merlion - symbol Singapuru. Piotrek niestety był zmęczony i nie dał się namówić na przystanek i zrobienie kilku zdjęć. Może następnym razem.
After Indian lunch, we got onto Sentosa Express and came back to the hotel. On Sentosa there is a huge Merlion - symbol of Singapore. Piotr was too tired and didn’t want to get off at Merlion’s stop to have a look and take some photos. Well, maybe next time.
Na lotnisku w Singapurze (Budget terminal) znajdują się dwa place zabaw - jeden w hali odpraw i drugi już po przejściu przez kontrolę paszportową. Maya pobawiła się trochę przed odlotem.
At SIngapore airport (Budget Terminal) there are two playgrounds - one in the check in hall and the other just after you go through the immigration control. Maya had some fun before the flight.
Podczas tego wypadu nie szaleliśmy ze zwiedzaniem i napewno zobacyzlibyśmy więcej bez Mayki. Ale podobało nam się, i zmiana otoczenia chociaż na kilka dni dobrze nam zrobiła. A to co zobaczyliśmy w zupełności nam wystarczyło. Singapur jest ładny i zadbany ale wydaje mi się że po wcześniejszym zwiedzeniu Hong Kongu czy Kuala Lumpur, Singapur nie zrobił na nas aż tak dużego wrażenia, może odrobinę ;)
We didn’t go wild with the sightseeing and we would probably see more without Maya. But we really enjoyed the trip, a change of scenery just for a few days is always good. And we had more than enough of sightseeing. SIngapore is nice and clean but I think after seeing Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, it didn’t wow us, well, maybe a little bit ;)
